Two children died late Monday evening at the Lake Chaparral Community in Linn County, ages 8 and 9. Sitting 35 miles north of Fort Scott, on Jan. 27, around 8:00 P.M. the Linn County Sherriff’s Department received a call about two missing children.
The children had been missing for a few hours in frigid winds by the time law enforcement arrived. After scouring the area, the Sherriff determined that the children had been playing around Lake De Lago.
In a joint effort with the county fire department, the Sherriff’s office utilized an aerial drone to survey the lake. It was at this time that they discovered the deceased bodies of two children trapped under the ice.
The Overland Park Fire Department deployed their dive team to assist in recovering the bodies. The two children have been identified as Keagan Grubbs and Bowen Owens were both were age 9.
