Trojans Showcase Grit and Firepower in High-Scoring Doubleheader Battle

by Derek White

The Colby Community College Trojans put on a show at Young Memorial Field on April 10, battling through tough wind and an explosive Seward County lineup in a high-energy doubleheader. While both games ended in losses, the Trojans left no doubt about their fight, their offense, and their potential as the season heats up.

In Game 1, Colby came out swinging. After falling behind early, the Trojans flipped the game on its head with a seven-run explosion in the second inning, highlighted by Isaiah Padilla’s monster three-run homer to center field. The bats stayed alive with Cam Marshak ripping an RBI double in the third and Jacob Mraz tying things up at 10 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Even with Seward County reclaiming the lead late, the Trojans racked up 10 hits, showing they could go toe-to-toe with any offense. Padilla led the team with three RBIs, and Marshak put together a three-hit game to spark the bottom of the lineup.

Game 2 was even more electric. Colby piled on 16 hits and a remarkable 13 walks, keeping the scoreboard busy all evening. Once again, it was Isaiah Padilla who brought the thunder — belting two home runs and driving in five runs. His bat was unstoppable, and his presence at the plate ignited the Trojans every time he stepped up.

The team scored seven runs in the first inning and jumped back ahead in the seventh thanks to clutch hitting from Charlie Langford, Joshua Stark, and Adam Vulcano. Langford finished with four hits, and Stark, Cassidy, and Vulcano all contributed multiple hits. On the bases, Colby kept the Saints guessing with five stolen bases, including two from Padilla.

What stood out beyond the stat sheet was Colby's heart. Every time the Saints responded, the Trojans fired back. They refused to fold, kept chipping away, and showed they’re not just here to play — they’re here to compete.

The Trojans travel to Seward County for a rematch this Saturday, and if this doubleheader was any indication, fans can expect another battle filled with big hits, hustle, and heart.

Padilla’s breakout performance and the team’s relentless offense are clear signs that Colby is finding its rhythm. Don’t count this team out — the Trojans are just getting warmed up.
