The Weskan Coyotes capped off an unforgettable season by claiming the Kansas Six-Man Football State Championship in a nail-biting 49-48 victory over Cunningham. On The Morning Blitz today, Coach Brett Clow joined us to reflect on the journey, the game, and the future of Weskan football.

The Game: A Championship Thriller

Coach Clow described the game as a "four-quarter dogfight." Weskan surged in the second quarter, only to see Cunningham rally late. Ultimately, a crucial turnover secured the Coyotes' undefeated 12-0 season. Reflecting on the game, Coach Clow admitted, "I was more nervous watching the replay this morning than I was on the sideline. You’re just so focused on the next play during the game that you don’t have time to feel the nerves." Six-man football’s fast-paced nature makes it thrilling, with scoring momentum swinging wildly. Clow praised his team’s preparation and resilience, saying, “Football runs through waves of momentum... We felt if we could stay in the game and pressure them, it would benefit us as it progressed.”

More Than Just a Team

What made this season particularly special for Weskan wasn’t just the wins, but the community support and the sense of shared accomplishment. “This felt like it was for all of Weskan, not just the team,” Coach Clow said.

Weskan’s journey has been about more than football. From hosting playoff games under the lights to overcoming weather challenges and tough opponents, the Coyotes demonstrated grit and adaptability. Clow recounted, “The rain playoff game stands out. We had to become a tough, run-heavy team that night, and the boys embraced it. It showed our toughness.”

Building for the Future

While this season’s success was anchored by the contributions of three seniors, the Coyotes are poised for continued success. Key players like their quarterback and standout defensive end Austin Smith will return, along with a strong core of sophomores and incoming freshmen. Clow expressed excitement, noting that this championship may be the start of something special for Weskan football.

"Our boys are a reflection of the community," Clow emphasized. "Their ability to sacrifice and adapt shows how much they’ve grown. I’m really proud of what they’ve accomplished and what they stand for."

A Season to Remember

The Coyotes’ perfect season and state title are a testament to their hard work, resilience, and the support of the Weskan community. As Coach Clow put it, “You can’t really put too many words into it—it’s an overwhelming sense of excitement for the boys and for everyone in Weskan.”

With a solid foundation and a bright future ahead, Weskan football is set to continue making waves in Kansas six-man football.

Congratulations to the Coyotes on an incredible season and state championship!
