Hey everyone, Kristina here from Fly Over Country 97.9! I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the incredibly talented William Clark Green at the Born and Raised Festival in Pryor OK. The weather was hot, but the energy was even hotter as we dove into his music, creative process, and what makes him tick as an artist.
The Heat is On
Despite the warm day, William was in great spirits. When I asked him about the heat, he joked about how it could be much worse, reminiscing about temperatures soaring above 100 degrees. But he noted that the festival's facilities made it all manageable. “This is perfect festival weather,” he said, taking in the vibrant atmosphere around us.
Defining His Sound
With years of experience under his belt, I asked William how he would describe his music to someone who hasn’t heard him before. “I’m an independent singer-songwriter,” he explained. “We’re not genre-specific. We do rock, country, folk—whatever feels good.” This flexibility allows him to connect with a wide range of listeners.
When I pressed him on which song newcomers should start with, he suggested “Creek Don't Rise,” saying, “It defines me as a songwriter, and I sound pretty good on it.”
The Thrill of the Stage
Performing at a festival brings a unique thrill. William loves the way his music impacts audiences, saying, “It’s like a drug.” He cherishes the personal connections he forms with fans, whether at larger festivals or more intimate shows. Hearing how his songs resonate with listeners makes it all worthwhile.
Current Playlist Favorites
We also talked about the music he’s currently vibing with. He mentioned being a fan of Zach Topp, Randall King’s latest record, and praised CoJo’s song “Dirt Cheap” as one of the best country songs written in a while. “Good solid country music is what I love to listen to,” he shared, highlighting his passion for both country and rock.
New Music on the Horizon
Excitingly, William has a new song out called “Whole Lotta Lubbock” He explained that the track reflects his roots, as much of his musical journey started in Lubbock, Texas. Written with Gary Stanton from Muscadine Bloodline, the collaboration blossomed from their friendship formed at last year’s Born and Raised Festival. “It’s pretty rare to write with someone for the first time and then have the song recorded and released so quickly,” he noted.
A Friendly Invitation
Before we wrapped up, I invited William to swing by our station in Northwest Kansas the next time he’s in town. “I’d love to!” he replied enthusiastically. We’re all looking forward to the possibility of having him stop by for a chat and maybe even a few tunes (we'd be so lucky!)
Introducing His New Single
As we concluded our interview, I asked William to introduce his new song. He proudly said, “This song is called ‘Whole Lotta Lubbcok"
our new single that’s out now.”
Thank you, William, for taking the time to chat with us! We can’t wait to see you perform and hear more from your exciting journey in music. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out his latest single and dive into his diverse catalog. Until next time, keep listening and supporting your favorite artists!
