The Oakley Plainsmen wrestling program hosted the St. Francis Indians to a rescheduled dual on Jan. 16. In a packed gym at the Oakley High School, the community was celebrating three senior wrestlers, Cadence Koch, Atavia Cain, and Carter Krier as they were accompanied by their parents for recognition in front of the home crowd. Krier would make the night more memorable by reaching 100 career wins.

Not everything ended perfect for Oakley on the night, the boys team suffered a close defeat to St. Francis 35-27. However, the girl’s dual ended in an Oakley win, defeating St. Francis 41-22 in fantastic fashion.
The Girls:
Both teams were open at 100 pounds leading to the first match at 105 pounds with St. Francis’ Reagan Milne squaring off with Oakley’s Lexi Zolinski. Milne pulled out the win by major decision 10-2, to take a 4-0 lead. Oakley senior Koch righted the ship by earning a win by fall over Daley Rose in the second period.
Both teams were open at 115 pounds, and with a two point lead Oakley watched Kylee Hodges beat Sierra Milne by technical fall 18-3 giving Oakley a seven-point lead.

Oakley was then open at 125 pounds giving the win to St. Francis first ranked Cheyenne LaBarge, closing Oakley’s lead to one-point. Breck Lohr earned six more points for St. Francis after defeating Shayden Selzer by fall at 130 pounds.
However, Oakley’s Abbygayl Jaskson collected a fall over Maci Workman at 135 pounds, giving Oakley a one point lead, 16-17. Oakley was open at 140 pounds giving the win to Madisyn Hays, but Oakley’s Brooke Smith brought the team ahead by one point by defeating Makayla Hays by fall at 145 pounds.
St. Francis was open at 155 pounds giving Cali Wagoner the win, and Oakley the lead by seven points, 22-29. Then at 170 pounds Oakley senior Cain won by fall over Federica Coli, putting the dual out of reach for St. Francis.

Oakley collected six more points at 190 pounds due to a St. Francis open giving the win to Hadley Lauber. The Oakley girls won the dual 22-41 at home on Senior Night, but then boys suffered defeat in a close one with St. Francis.
The Boys:
St. Francis started off the boys dual open at 106 pounds, then both teams were open at 113 pounds. St. Francis was then open again at 120 pounds leading to a 0-12 deficit to Oakley going into 126 pounds. Oakley freshman Aaron Samuelson won the first match of the dual by decision over Kike Yanez, putting Oakley ahead 0-15.
Finally making it onto the scoreboard at 132 pounds, Shane Todd won by technical fall over Oakley’s Brody Beckman. Oakley senior Krier then picked his 100th career win by fall over Daniel Hoard.

With Oakley sitting on a lead of 5-21 going into 144 pounds, St. Francis’ Dillon Keller won by fall over freshman Jett Wolf. Then St. Francis’ Dayton Fromholtz picked up a win by fall over Rex Eberle at 150 pounds, closing the gap to a four point Oakley lead.

Then St. Francis picked up another twelve points by Oakley opens at 157 pounds and 165. Both teams were then open at 175 pound with the Indians leading 29-21.

Oakley’s Dradden Foster earned a quick pin over Brayden Helton, closing the St. Francis lead to two points, but with another open for Oakley, the St. Francis Indians pulled out the win 35-27 after both teams were open at 285 pounds.
