Ulysses, Kan. — Four area golf programs—Colby, Goodland, Lakin, and Scott Community—made a strong showing Tuesday, April 22 at the Ulysses Invitational, held at Bentwood Golf Course. The par-72 course proved challenging, but several local athletes delivered standout performances amid a competitive 18-hole varsity field.
Goodland Grabs First
Goodland dominated the leaderboard, capturing the team title with a low score of 333, a commanding 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Dodge City. The Cowboys were led by Barrett Schlosser, who carded a 79 to place third overall individually. Teammates T. Sheldon and Luke Thomas both shot 84s to tie for seventh, while Blair Linin followed close behind with an 86, good for 12th place. Treighton Hoss also landed in the top 15 with a solid round of 87.
Scott Community Locks in Top 3
Scott City continued its consistent spring with a third-place finish at 360, highlighted by a balanced team effort. Jackson Rumford led the Beavers with an 85 to tie for 10th. He was supported by Drew Metzger (91), Eli Lisenbyand Matthew Wheeler (both 92), and Hudson Feely (102). The Beavers' depth helped secure their spot on the team podium.
Colby Climbs to Fifth
Colby High School took fifth place with a team total of 382, bolstered by a top-five individual finish from Kaleb Dixon, who fired an 80 to secure fourth overall. Kade Youngman posted a strong round of 87 for 13th, while Kieren Youngman (100), Legend Finley (115), and Grant Stephens (128) rounded out the Eagles' scorecard.
Lakin’s Garcia Claims Silver
While Lakin finished eighth as a team with a score of 404, it was Noah Garcia who stole the spotlight. The senior standout fired a 78, the second-lowest round of the day, earning individual runner-up honors. Brayson Hoover added a 98, Thomas Peters shot 112, and Manuel Gonzales followed with 116.
Looking Ahead
With league and regional tournaments on the horizon, all four programs will look to carry the momentum from Tuesday's contest into the heart of the postseason. Goodland’s depth and consistency position them as serious contenders, while standout individual performances from Colby’s Dixon and Lakin’s Garcia suggest more highlights are yet to come.
