Jane Elizabeth Nutting, 69, of WaKeeney, Kansas, died March 1, 2025. She was born on July 19, 1955, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was the sixth of six children of Leo F. Massey and Neva Loretta (Belden) Massey, originally of Reno and Rice Counties, Kansas. Jane grew up in Hays, Kansas, graduating in 1972, followed by attendance at Fort Hays Kansas State College.
As a young woman, Jane lived in Hill City where she met and married Earnest Richmeier on June 8, 1979; they divorced in 1991. On August 14, 1993, she married Howard Leroy “Lee” Nutting. They lived near Bogue, Kansas, and Jane continued working for City Service and then Husky Oil Company. Later, she and Lee moved to an acreage near Anderson, Missouri. There she worked for Walmart. Jane trained as a medical transcriptionist, the work she did until her retirement. Lee passed away in 2016. In 2018 Jane moved to WaKeeney, with her dogs and cat.
Jane had many friends, was devoted to her kin, kept in touch with her high school classmates, and became an avid fan of the University of Oregon’s women’s basketball team. She was a ‘country girl’ who worked hard and enjoyed her free time. Gregarious, she ‘never knew a stranger’. She was a reader and followed current events closely. Unique, indeed, there will never be another Jane.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials donations may be sent directly to the Humane Society-High Plains, PO Box 311, Hays, KS 67601
