Article taken from live on-air interview on 730 Goodland's GOLD KLOE Good Neighbor Hour---Good morning, everyone! If you're tuning in, you're in for a treat as we chat with Bert Moser, the Economic Development Director for Sherman County Community Development, and Jessica Dingle, the Tourism and Events Director. They're sharing all the latest happenings, including some exciting new projects and events coming to Sherman County!
Highway 24 Garage Sale – June 6-8
One of the biggest upcoming events that Bert and Jessica are organizing is the Highway 24 Garage Sale, running from June 6 through June 8. This isn’t just any sale—it stretches across the beautiful and scenic Highway 24 from Bethune, Colorado, all the way toward Cocker City and Glasgow in Kansas. This event has been a local tradition for over six years now, with dozens of households participating along the route, each offering their unique treasures for sale.

Jessica explains, “You can start your sale on any day—Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We make a list of all participating sales along the route, along with their times, so you can plan your shopping route.” It’s an amazing opportunity to declutter, find hidden gems, and explore small towns along the way. Maps for the sales will be available at several local spots, including Casey’s and Cowboy Corner.
Big News: A New Veterinarian Coming to Sherman County
Bert is thrilled to announce that Sherman County will soon be welcoming a new veterinarian, Dr. Rissa Boyd, who is currently studying at Colorado State University. Dr. Boyd, originally from Burlington, is set to open the old Smith Vet Clinic on North Caldwell in Goodland once she graduates in 2026. This is a major development for the county, as it will provide both small and large animal care services, filling a much-needed gap in the area.
Bert shares, “We’ve been working with the state and local banks to help her purchase the building, and we’re excited to have her as part of our community. It’s a real win for Sherman County!”

Economic Development & Loans for Local Businesses
Bert also highlights the various economic development initiatives that are making a big impact in Sherman County. One of the key programs is the E-Community Loan through Network Kansas. This program is available to local businesses looking to grow or expand, with loans available up to $50,000 at low interest rates. Bert adds, “These loans are a great tool for entrepreneurs in Sherman County. The best part is that borrowers can choose between a 5-year loan at 4% or a 10-year loan at 6%.”
Sherman County is an officially designated E-Community, which gives local businesses access to resources not available in other counties. For those interested in learning more about these programs, Bert encourages people to stop by the Welcome Center or give him a call.
Concerts & Festivals to Look Forward To
Jessica also took some time to talk about some exciting events that will be taking place in Sherman County, including a summer concert series. Here's a sneak peek:
June 6-8: Highway 24 Garage Sale (of course!)
June 28: Shindig at the Smokey from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – a great evening event for the community.
July 4: Band for Freedom Fest for a spectacular Independence Day celebration.
August 22: Back-to-School Bash to kick off the new school year.
September 26-27: Flatlanders Fall Festival featuring an expanded car show, more food, and entertainment for all!
A Local Favorite: The Goodland Painting

And don’t forget about the famous Goodland Painting on the side of the building near the Welcome Center. It has recently been nominated as one of the top 10 roadside attractions by USA Today—and you can help make it number one by voting daily until May 4! Bert and Jessica are encouraging everyone to visit the painting and vote for it. After all, it’s not every day you get to contribute to making your town famous!

As spring kicks into full gear, there’s no shortage of exciting projects happening in Sherman County. Whether it’s a new vet in town, the upcoming garage sale, or the variety of community events, there's plenty to look forward to.
Bert and Jessica are also excited to announce a new business spotlight feature, where they highlight a local business each month. These stories will be published on their website and shared with the community, helping to promote local businesses and bring even more attention to Sherman County.
