At Sacred Heart Colby Elementary School, things are gearing up for an exciting event on Wednesday, April 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. That’s when the school will host its official Enrollment Open House — and Principal Troy Langdon says it’s much more than just paperwork.
“We’re not just enrolling students,” Langdon shared during our recent interview. “We’re showcasing everything we have to offer — our curriculum, our test scores, even tours of our building. It’s a chance for families to get a feel for the school before their first day.”
And he's right — walking into a school for the first time can be intimidating. This open house aims to take the mystery out of that first-day experience by letting kids and families see classrooms, find the restrooms, meet staff, and ask questions in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
No Appointment Necessary — Just Show Up
The event is open to all, and no pre-registration or appointments are necessary. Just show up, take a tour, and learn more about what Sacred Heart has to offer. Principal Langdon will also be available to speak with parents and discuss scholarship and financial assistance opportunities.
“This is day one of enrollment,” he said. “We’ll continue to enroll students through August, but this event gives families a chance to check it off their list early and feel confident going into summer knowing they’re ready for the school year.”
Growth, Excitement, and a Bright Future
Enrollment numbers have been trending upward in recent years, and there’s plenty of momentum in the air. Langdon attributes much of this to the energy surrounding Colby’s continued growth — from new housing developments and apartments downtown to a brand-new hospital on the way.
“We’re excited,” Langdon said. “We’ve got four new teachers coming in from Benedictine College who are currently student teaching and will be joining our team next year. There’s a real positive energy here.”
A Spiritual Oasis on the Plains
Sacred Heart’s mission goes beyond education. “Our priest, Father Brian Lager, says we want to be known as the spiritual oasis on the plains,” Langdon shared. “And that’s really what we’re about — serving students in a nurturing and faith-filled environment.”
