Colby Metropolitan Area Planning Commission January Meeting

Writer's picture: Derek WhiteDerek White

In the first meeting of the year, the Metro Planning Commission met at the City Building on Jan. 16.  The first order of business was the re-election of Pat Mallory as Chairman and Dick Snider as Vice-Chairman.

In standard fashion, the commission approved last months minutes, and then moved on to new business.  The alteration of commercial zoning for two recreational vehicle/ camper parks that are inside city limits, Robyn 99-1 LLC, and Overtime, LLC.

Currently both properties have been operating businesses on special use permits that require a yearly renewal.  This could be an issue for potential investors being able to secure financing based on temporary business permits that can be declined any year.

The City of Colby initiated this change to protect these properties, and to help prepare the city for future progress, specifically with the pending approval of the Star Bond for the Colby Multi-Purpose Arena and Equestrian Center.

When the arena is operational, the community will need these parks to provide water and electrical hookups for campers/horse trailers participating in the events.  An aspect that will be considered when approving the bond.

The planning commission’s next meeting will be Feb. 13 at the City of Colby Council Chambers at 9:30 A.M.
