Coming into the game at 3-1 and in second place in the GWAC conference, Scott City was expected to beat an under achieving Colby team sitting in fourth place with a 2-2 record. Colby just lost at home to first place Goodland, and were set to take out their frustrations on Scott City.
The game was slow to begin with both sides doing just enough to put some points on the board. Scott City’s trio of seniors Adan Tarango, Eloy Ruelos, and Jackson Rumford all collected their first buckets of the game.

Colby found scoring from seniors Brayden Foss and Guy Tubbs both of whom have been pivotal in Colby’s success. Providing the team with consistent scoring and composure during their toughest games. With them was junior Jordan Jones, the teams main ball handler and ace shooter. Colby ended the first quarter with a two point lead, 6-8.
The second quarter picked up quickly as both sides found their offense, the lead would change hands a couple times. Scott City put up 11 points in the quarter behind their big guy Rumford with 4 points, and sophomore Junior Meza hitting a timely three-pointer.

Colby did just enough to lead the quarter scoring 13 points, Tubbs held steady with 4 points, Jones earned 4 points, and senior Max Kersenbrock hit a three-pointer for Colby to lead 17-21 ending the first half.
Coming out of the break, Colby stayed strong outscoring Scott City 10-11. Rumford and Tubbs kept up their offense with both scoring 4 points. The two had several key battles in the paint throughout the game, but Colby’s depth was too much for Scott City.

The final quarter brought the drama that fans would expect on a Friday night game. Scott City was down five points to start the period and Rumford came out scoring collecting 10 points in the period with two big three-pointers. Ruelos provided 7 points, and Scott City got another three-pointer from Meza to finally outscore Colby in a quarter.
Scott City was in this game to the very end, hitting two tough three-pointers in a row to put the lead to just three points with 24.4 seconds left. The game, however, was destined to go to Colby as Foss was able to steal the ball in the closing seconds leading to his clutch shooting at the free-throw line going three-for-four put the game out of reach for Scott City.
Colby for a fourth straight period did enough to finish the goal, winning the game 47-51. Jones took over on offense controlling the tempo and attacking the Scott City paint. He put up 11 points in the game to outshine Scott City’s star in Rumford in the final quarter.

Rumford finished as the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, he was aided by Ruelos with 13 points, while Meza and Tarango each put in 6 points for Scott City. Next, they will be traveling to Goodland on Jan. 28.
Colby was led by Jones with 19 points, Tubbs had 14 points, and Foss with 12 points. Next, the team will be hosting Beloit on Jan. 23.
