Colby, KS – Citizens Health has been awarded the prestigious Birthing Friendly designation
by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), making it the only hospital in
Northwest Kansas to receive this national recognition.
Being named a Birthing Friendly hospital means Citizens Health follows proven, evidence-
based practices to ensure the highest quality care for mothers and babies. This designation
is awarded to hospitals demonstrating a strong commitment to maternal safety and
implementing best practices in obstetric care. Earning this recognition is a testament to
our entire team’s dedication to ensuring every mother and baby receives expert,
compassionate care before, during, and after delivery.

As part of its high standards of maternal care, Citizens Health has implemented a number
of patient safety bundles, including:
• Preventing and managing obstetric complications, such as hemorrhage and severe
hypertension
• Reducing unnecessary C-sections, improving outcomes for both mothers and
babies
• Providing specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, including those with substance
use disorders
• Supporting maternal mental health, ensuring mothers receive the care they need
before and after birth
