Writer's picture: Derek WhiteDerek White

Alyce Jean Micek was born September 21, 1944 in Denver, Colorado to Armand and Alyce Ribordy. She went home to be with Jesus and her beloved husband on February 8, 2025.

Her early childhood was spent growing up in Cheyenne, Wyoming until the family eventually settled near McDonald, Kansas. On November 16, 1963, Jean married Alfred Micek. To their union they had five children and lived on the family homestead until 2001 at which time they retired to Colby, Kansas.

Jean’s children describe her as “the toughest lady they ever met.” She never backed down from hard work. She drove harvest trucks, maintained gardens to produce food for the family, canned fruits and vegetables raised chickens and mowed the farmstead. Anyone who got to eat at her table was blessed because she could make anything from scratch. Even as her health declined her toughness shined through as she battled to the end. 2Timothy 7-8 sums up Jeans life as a devoted Christian, mother and wife “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred and parents Armand and Alyce.

She is survived by her children, Zita (Roy) Mead, Tim (Deb) Micek, Rose Schacher, Jeanette (Mike) Fortkamp and Tom Micek; grandchildren, Katelyn and Adam Schacher, Jory, Corbin and Allie Micek, Matthew, Morgan and Marcus Fortkamp; sister Patricia Sramek; brother Ron Ribordy, plus numerous nephews and nieces and grand fur pets.

Private family services will take place with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Colby. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or Sacred Heart School and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
